How do I improve my IELTS writing and speaking?
This is a question that we often get asked and it is an easy one to answer. One of the IELTS examiners at upmyielts explains.
First things first, you need to find where you are at the moment. If you need Band 7.0 in speaking and writing, then you need to know what you would get if you did the exam tomorrow. It may be the case that your speaking is already at Band 7+ level but your writing is not. Then, you know what you need to focus on.
Many people pay 150 US dollars to do IELTS with absolutely no idea of what their level of English is. We see many candidates come to the speaking with no idea of what they need to do. As an IELTS teacher, I get asked this all the time too. It is so true that people go into the exam bling. I had a student who did the exam 5 times before doing classes. That is over 800 euros to do the exam and he kept getting 6.5 in writing. I don’t know why he didn’t stop and get some help. It seems that people are willing to pay for the exam but not to prepare for it. They think that YouTube and free websites can help them with IELTS when this is just not the case.
I did IELTS two times and got 6.0 in writing in both occasion. I need help for writing.

The first thing you need to do is find out where you are in terms of your English level. You may find that you are better at some skills than others. Do a practice reading and listening test so you can see what score you are getting. You also need to do this for your writing and speaking so it is a good idea to do a writing and speaking with the IELTS examiners that work with us so we can tell you your level and what you need to work on.
