An IELTS examiner’s story.
The examiners that work for us have hundreds of stories about examining. Here is one though that they see a lot.
So, I had a guy come today for an IELTS speaking test. His English was excellent (Band 8.0) and he dealt with the questions I had from him expertly. Now, I had seen him twice. This was the second time I’d seen him in 3 months. He said he had got Band 6 in the writing (Academic) and was there to do the exam again.
He wanted to move to London to work as a surgeon and IELTS was the final piece of the puzzle for him. I just thought, man, what are we doing not letting in people like this who want to help people but are stuck because of IELTS.
I never saw him again so I hope he got what he needed to go to England but it got me thinking, how many people have had to do IELTS multiple times because of the writing?
I started working for upmyielts because they are the cheapest and easiest way that people can find out whether they are ready or not. IELTS makes a real difference to people’s lives and I am part if the examining team to make sure that people get what they need so they don’t have to do the exam again and again and again. It just isn’t fair.
